Capital Convertibility of Indian Currency: Boon or a Bane

By M.narasingh Rao In a significant move the Centre has decided to come up with a greater Capital Account Convertibility (CAS) of the Indian currency in a few days. The central bank has also appointed a six-person committee to produce a “road map” toward that goal by July 31. What is Capital Account Convertibility ? The Capital Account Convertibility, (CAS) of the Indian Currency means, removal of restrictions on cross border movement of capital, no matter whether from India to rest of the world or the vise-versa. The formal regime of capital account convertibility, when in place , will allow all residents, including companies or individuals or other entities, to invest , divest or transect in any property or asserts/liability of any country. One could convert one currency to another or move funds anywhere in the world, according to ones personal choice, which will be unrestricted by law of the land. Pre Conditions for Capital Account Convertibility The RBI had appointed the Tarapore committee to make recommendations on making the rupee fully convertible. The panel had submitted its report in 1997. The panel had recommended a three year time frame for complete convertibility by 1999-2000 subject to satisfying certain conditions These pre conditions includes (1) Bringing down gross fiscal deficit to GDP ratio to 3.5% in 1999-2000, (2) The inflation rate should remain at average 3-5% for the above three year period. (3) Designing external sector policies to increase current receipt to GDP ratio and bringing down the debt servicing ratio from 25% to 20%. (4) The gross NPAs of the public sector banking system needs to be brought down to 5% by 2000 and the CRR to brought down to 3%. The Present scenario The economic conditions stands now are, the gross fiscal deficit is 4.1% and estimated to come down to 3.8% of GDP in the next fiscal. The WPI- based inflation rates hanging over 4% so far in this fiscal. The current account deficit is below 3% and foreign debt is lower by $1, 61, 030 million (foreign debt was $124,326 million on Sept 2005 QE) than the countrys $1,40,429 million (as on Feb 10 2006) Forex reserves which could cover all most 13 months imports. The gross NPA in the banking system is hinges on 5.2 % where as the CRR is 5% currently. Whether A Boon or A Bane At present, the Indian rupees is fully convertible on the current account for free trade in goods and services and transfer of remittances. Indian companies borrowing abroad, investments in abroad, individuals ability to invest in stocks and property abroad, these are restricted by lack of convertibility. The gross domestic product GDP has registered a robust 7% to 8% growth in the last few years, along with inflation moderating to 4%.The economic fundamentals are strong , the air of optimisim is thick in the air, as the foreign investors investing their money on the Bombay Stock Exchange, BSE. The BSE sensex has already crossed11000 points. The Capital convertibility will give companies the much needed flexibility and negotiating power to raise capital in any currencies at finer rates to acquire foreign assets with foreign capital, full convertibility seems the way to go now. The Removal of these restrictions will help Indian economic agents exploit the opportunities around the world. Risk of Foreign portfolio Capital However the full convertibility poses major challenges as well. The flow of capital into India are generally of three types, VIZ, portfolio equity, direct investment and loan capital (both long term and short term). These different type of foreign capital flow have varying impact on balance of payment, capital market and the financial sector of our country .The port folio capital which is coming in to our country by the way of investments in equities and bonds floats in the stock market. Portfolio capital flows could increase to more significant levels in the future as Indias financial market would integrated globally in convertibility regime. Foreign portfolio investors generally enjoys freedom in regard to entry and exit. It has been observed that portfolio capital is fickle and is subject to sudden outflow, if the market conditions turns adverse or the economy is on a down slide and then it will become possible for the investors, both Indian and foreign to exit the rupee and the currency could take a tumble. Such capital outflows put unnecessary pressure on the exchange rate and money supply management policy. A small crisis could trigger a big collapse. Among the three major types of inflow, the advantage of FDI is clear as such flows can be directed in the desired areas as per the defined policy of the country. These flows are not volatile and therefore dont lead to unstable exchange rates. But unfortunately the flow of FDI into India is not adequate in comparison to other Asian Countries. There is need for careful monitoring of the inflows and their end-use and Government should keep options open to impose some restriction if the currency conditions turn adverse, otherwise, Indian could invite trouble like the East Asian and Latin American countries. Is Indian banking sector prepared for CAC Free and full float of rupees is expected to put a lot of pressure on Indian banks to improve their efficiency levels. In the full convertibility regime Indian banks will accept deposits in any currency from anywhere in the world. The crucial determinant will be the usual swap cost that is the cost of converting a currency into another currency depending on the current exchange rate at the material time. The other important thing would be the comparative interest rate in India as well in other deposit exporting countries. Full capital account convertibility may encourage arbitrage. The exploitation of prevailed differential interest or exchange rate, would become quite common. Even the individual depositors too can make most use of those opportunities, that would place Indian currency in high volatile category. In short we will headed for a scenario where violent swings in interest and exchange rate are possible. How will Indian banks be prepared to deal with this kind of scenario? Rouge speculators cannot be eliminated from the system. If that happens, as happened in the South-East Asian Countries and Latin America some years back, it would wipe out years of development and could unsettle the overall economy. The Capital account convertibility is thus like a double- edged weapon, so the government should place enough regulatory mechanism and safeguard measures before going for full convertibility announcement. Have You Stopped Beating Your Customer?

By Michael Knowles Have you stopped beating your customer? It’s an old leading question from the days of vaudeville. The title of this article is a leading question, too. It’s prompted by a mistake many businesses make over and over again. A company creates a product it believes will sell, and spends hundreds…thousands…even millions producing and trying to sell it. Only no one buys it, and the company wonders why. The answer is simple: People buy only products and services they believe they need. You cannot sell a product or service that isn’t wanted. Yet companies persist in beating their potential customers to death with messages. Marketing people apply an arsenal of psychological weapons in an effort to arouse desire for their products. Often such weapons are used to prey upon people’s fears. In the world of moral capitalism that’s called manipulation. And strong companies don’t use manipulative marketing techniques because they don’t have to. When Businesses Believe They Must Manipulate to Drive Sales It is a normal human reaction to want others to accept our products and services. We wouldn’t start businesses if we didn’t believe we could be successful in convincing people to become customers. Yet hundreds of business leaders continue to believe that people will buy a product or service simply because it exists. that by employing clever schemes and psychological ploys, they’ll sell products. And sometimes they’re right. Sometimes. Maybe there is a sucker born every minute. If that’s your take on humanity, best of luck. You won’t be doing yourself, your customers, and the rest of us business people any favors, but if you have that sort of attitude, then you don’t care what we think anyway. Yet…if what you want is a business to live for, you have to give people what they need and want. You must have a customer-validated product or service. You need a customer-validated vision for your business’ future. A Customer-Validated Vision for Your Future A customer-validated vision is one that ensures a focus on delivering the absolute best product or service you can to people who want to do business with you. Getting to such a vision isn’t easy. It takes a willingness to devote yourself and your team to asking good questions and, more important, listening to the responses you get without filtering them through your needs or expectations. Consider the New Coke fiasco a number of years ago. The marketing group for Coca-Cola did, in fact, do focus groups on the company’s new drink formula. They asked questions, but questions for which they already had answers! You see, they “knew” the solution to their loss of market share to Pepsi was to create a “New” Coke, one that tasted more like Pepsi. To their chagrin, the New Coke was a disaster. Why? Because their customers didn’t want something that tasted like Pepsi. If that’s what they wanted, they would have bought Pepsi products! From Here Forward Are you ready to attract and retain more customers? Then you need a customer-validated vision for your business. Get clear about where you are today, and devote yourself to identifying where you want to be for your customers. Ask your team the hard questions, questions such as: Are you willing to validate your corporate values in light of the needs of the customers you’re in business to serve? Are you willing to do the work required to understand how to focus what you do best on your customers’ success? And, if so, what do you need to do to get there? Are you willing to define your purpose and end goal in customer-validated language? What will you do to ensure that every stakeholder for your company speaks the same customer-validated language? It’s all about how you serve who you serve. Turn your business mind around and look to your customers if you want success. That’s where you’ll find the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow. How To Catch A Trout From Shore

By Trevor Kugler As trout fishing season approaches, or has already arrived in some parts of the country, rivers and streams can be very high and muddy this time of year. That means that many of us anglers are reserved to catching trout from the banks of a lake. In most cases this means a lake that has been stocked with trout. This most certainly isn’t my personal favorite way to catch a trout, but it suffices when there has been no fishing activity for the entire winter. Stocked trout, such as the ones that we’ll be fishing for love artificial bait. Baits such as Powerbait, corn, cheese, and marshmallows can all be employed. For this article, I’m going to assume that Powerbait (or some other floating form of dough bait) is going to be used. Why? Because this is the type of bait that I’ve had the most success with fishing for stocked trout. A basic bottom rig is what we want to use, so the first thing that needs to be done is to slip an egg sinker onto your line. Now tie a small barrel swivel onto your line that will act as a ’stopper’ for your egg sinker. Now a leader that’s 12 inches to 3 feet needs to be tied onto the other end of the barrel swivel. On the end of the leader, tie a small hook (size 8 or 10). Rather than the leader and hook, tie a set of pre-made gang hooks onto the other end of the swivel, if you have them available. Gang hooks are the most effective way to use this rig, but either way will suffice. At this point you add enough floating dough bait (Powerbait) to cover the hook, or hooks in the case of gang hooks, and you’re good to go. At this point you cast your rig out and let it sink to the bottom. Gently reel in the slack line, until your line is taught. Obviously your rod needs to be sitting in a rod holder of some kind (many people use a forked stick). As you can probably imagine, with this rig your egg sinker will be on the bottom, and your bait will be floating between the sinker and the end of your rod. This rig is a very effective way too catch these lake bound stocked trout. The same rig can be used while fishing a live worm, and some marshmallows to float said worm off of the bottom. The live worm technique can be quite effective as well, although I would definitely suggest gang hooks be used with a live worm. Gang hooks are the best way to present a worm in a natural manner. The bottom line is that this technique is a great way to catch trout from the banks of a lake. Trevor Kugler is co-founder of JRWfishing.com and an avid angler. California Technical Colleges

By Josh Riverside You are about to graduate from high school and it is time to pick a college. You know you would like to study something technical - perhaps engineering. You also know that you would like to go to school in California. But where exactly? Here is some advice on choosing the California technical colleges that will offer you the best education possible. The first step in choosing California technical colleges is to do your research. Think about the criteria that are important to you. Would you like a small school or a large school? What major would you like to focus on? Which part of the state would you like to be in? The more questions you can answer, the easier it will be to narrow down your choices. Once you have a list of potential California technical colleges, it is time to start visiting them and researching on each further. Contact current students and ask if you can interview them. Look online for more information. Talk to as many people as possible and read as many reviews as you can. Also try to contact some professors. They may be willing to meet with you and discuss your education options. You will also want to get a feel of the social side of the school. Even though it may not seem important, having a lot of social options will make your stay at the college more enjoyable. After all, California technical colleges aren’t all about studying. Having fun can greatly enhance your educational experience. Once you do choose a school, all you have left to do is find a way to pay for your tuition. Also keep in mind that college is filled with transitions. The more you know about the California technical college you’re going to before you actually go, the easier the transition will be. Do You Know These Tricks To Help Conquer Food Cravings?

By Tracy Lee Food cravings are crafty — they appear from nowhere and hit you just when you least expect them, don’t they? And the critical thing is that the way you respond to your food cravings might just make or break your success at weight loss and maintenance. That’s why you need simple ways to deal with cravings whenever they pop up. Now, veering off from your eating plan occasionally will not be earth-shattering, but if you make a habit of giving in to your eating impulses, your moments of weakness will certainly catch up with you. The good news is that if you can remember these tips that I am going to share with you today, you will be able to conquer those pesky cravings of yours! 1. Avoid being hungry Eat 5 times a day — 3 meals a day with 2 planned snacks, but remember to moderate your portions for each of your meals. Once you start eating 5 times a day instead of the usual 3, you’ll find that you’ll be hungry less often, and you’ll automatically have fewer cravings throughout the day. On top of that, eating 5 times a day also helps to boost your metabolism level, so you’ll be burning more calories throughout the day than before. And that’s why this is my number one tip! 2. Catch your cravings early If you can catch your cravings early, you have more control over them. So, when do cravings start? A craving starts with a thought of something good to eat. It can be triggered by encountering a situation in which you see or smell tempting food, or by just thinking of something good and dwelling on the idea. After a while, you’ll be able to recognize the situations which are likely to make you start craving for certain foods. The moment you catch the cravings coming on, you can start to put the tips below into use. The earlier you can catch your cravings, the better chances you have of overcoming them. 3. Ride out a craving Believe it or not, you can simply wait out a craving. Sometimes we may even mistake a craving for actual hunger. Don’t dwell on thoughts of food or eating — distract yourself! By playing the waiting game for about 20 minutes, it can help you to distinguish between the craving and actual hunger. In the meantime, get busy by doing something else to distract your mind: take a walk, play a game, or concentrate on your work projects. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that the craving has subsided after some time has passed. If you still want something 20 minutes later, chances are that you are truly hungry. By giving yourself a little time to take a pause before giving in, you may find the craving will disappear altogether. 4. Drink your water Sometimes all you need is just a glass of water, that’s all! Many times, we can mistake dehydration for hunger or cravings. Take a moment and drink a glass or two of water; it may be just what you need. And this has another side benefit too — even if you were truly hungry, the water will help to make you fill fuller (without adding any calories to your daily intake), so you’ll not need to eat as much later. 5. Temporarily ruin your taste buds After drinking your water, if you find that your craving still does not go away and you cannot stop thinking about eating, what you can try to do next is to disrupt your sense of taste or smell. Try a strong mouth mint. Or you can brush your teeth or dab some cologne or strong smelling ointment under your nose. This may only work for a while, so you must get busy doing something else to take your mind off eating. After a while, you will find yourself not thinking of the craving, and before you know it, it is already time for your next meal. 6. Giving in to your craving BUT only just a little You will face the biggest danger about cravings when you give in to them. What happens to a lot of people is that when they give in to the craving, they also lose control of how much they eat too. Thus, please be extra careful when you decide to eat something to satisfy your cravings. Don’t overdo it. Eat an amount that seems reasonable and appropriate. For example, you should never allow yourself to finish an entire carton of ice cream or a whole bag of chips in one sitting. What you can do is to take a small serving out and put the rest away. Alternatively, you can buy small portions to begin with. In most cases, you will find that the first few bites actually satisfy the craving anyway! 7. Don’t fool yourself If you are dying to have a chocolate chip cookie, you know that the low fat energy bar is not going to do the trick. So, what should you do? Well, there’s no point trying to fool yourself. That’s right, go for the “bad” choice. But remember: “Moderation, moderation, MODERATION!” It is fine to allow yourself to indulge in what you really want, provided you watch your portion size. You will not feel deprived, and you’ll be able to sustain these new healthy eating habits for the long haul. On the other hand, if you abstain completely from all your favorite foods, you are more likely to eat that energy bar AND the chocolate chip cookie. Easy, right? I’m sure they’ll be able to help you manage your cravings better. So go ahead and try out the 7 tips above… _today_! Injectable Dermal Fillers for Cosmetic Facial Rejuvenation - Restylane and Juvederm

By Alex Kaplan In this era of direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical company advertising and promotion, this is not so surprising. The current preoccupation with anti-aging formulas and cosmetic surgery has propelled the popularity of these two bio-chemicals. Riding on the heels of Botox for cosmetic use, hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane and Juvederm, has allowed doctors and other healthcare practitioners to administer significantly rejuvenating treatments for an affordable price and over lunch. What these dermal fillers are is not as commonly known as what they do. They are composed of hyaluronic acid which is a substance that is part of the extracellular matrix of the skin. It is part amino-acid and part sugar and acts as a filling/cushioning material between cells. An interesting feature of it is that it binds to water molecules and swells to a much larger volume that the actual material itself occupies. Thus it forms a gel. Naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, if injected into your skin, is quickly broken down and goes away. Restylane and Juvederm differ in that they are cross-linked to increase their stability. This means that a gel of some hardness is formed that can last for months at a time. A subtle difference between these two dermal fillers is that Juvederm is composed of different size fragments of cross-linked hyaluronic acid while Restylane is said to be composed of more uniformly sized fragments. The different-sized particles may lead to increased smoothness of injection. Both substances are injected mainly into the lips and nasolabial folds (the smile lines between the corner of the mouth and the nose). Lips can be increased in fullness, pouting, or get increased definition of the edges. Facial depressions that cause shadow-lines, such as the nasolabial folds are also good targets for these fillers. Other target areas included deep lines in the corners of the mouth and deep frown furrows. Generally, these fillers are injected using a fine needle and syringe. Discomfort is minimized by using topical anesthetic, but dental anesthetic injections may be necessary to adequately numb the lips, which are very sensitive. Good results can usually be achieved with 1-2 syringes. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler generally last 6-8 months, but less in the lips. Initially, the material may feel a little hard and lumpy under the skin, but this smooths out with time and massage, if needed. The most common side effect is bruising. People taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other medications that thin the blood should expect to have siginificantly more bruising. Hyaluronic acid injection is not a cure-all for wrinkles. Very deep, creased wrinkles can be smoothed out so that there is no appearance of shadow in wrinkle, but the actual crease in the skin may persist. Even so, it is possible to look 5-10 years younger with a syringe or two. http://www.tattoomdla.com, http://www.dkskinsolutions.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Alex_Kaplan http://EzineArticles.com/?Injectable-Dermal-Fillers-for-Cosmetic-Facial-Rejuvenation—Restylane-and-Juvederm&id=463894 charge offs credit report credit score chart what determines a credit score bad buying credit help home
